Esh Winning 2000 is a group formed by and from the residents of a Village, 4000 strong, who recognise that the Village suffered continuous deprivation since the rail and mining closures, terminating in 1968. The Group determined to find a way to reverse the decline in Community Spirit and remove the apathy which threatened to become endemic An appraisal to identify Village facilities and failings was undertaken with the financial assistance of Millennium Awards for All. This has highlighted a number of areas to which successful attention will greatly improve the quality of like and the immediate environment of what was, in the 1850s, described as a model village. To this end EW2000 has formed action sub-committees to devise solutions to the problem of areas of Youth, Transport, Community safety, Economic development and the local problem of the Grade II listed Miners' Memorial Hall. This Hall is among only fifty, built during the last century considered nationally to be worthy of saving. The group would be overjoyed to hear from anyone, anywhere who has a constructive input to the considerations of these problems. The Parish Council meets on the third Thursday of every month at Goatbeck Terrace, Langley Moor at 6-30pm. The next meeting is on Friday, 16th March. Everyone welcome to come and listen &/or contribute. |
